Crime Prevention Through
Environmental Design (CPTED)
CPTED is based upon the principle that the proper design and
effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction
in the incidence and fear of crime, and an improvement in
the quality of life. Our Certified CPTED specialists work
hand-in-hand with architects and city planners to help “design
out” the possibilities of crime in new buildings, homes,
shopping centers, subdivisions, and their surrounding areas.
CPTED reviews can be very effective in already
built facilities as well. Our Certified CPTED specialists
will recommend security controls which may deviate from the
more traditional target hardening approaches to crime prevention
such as locks, alarms, and fences, by deriving access control
